I have a secret. It’s a doozy too. Are you ready?
You can pull off any fashion trend.
I mean it. Anything you see on the runway, anything you see in the magazines, anything your fave celebrity is rocking on The Late Show tonight. You too can pull it off. And in spades, my friend.
I can already hear the proverbial grumbles coming from you guys as I write this sentence. What I’m hearing is that you’re annoyed, you don’t believe me, and you’re about to quit reading this post.
But wait! I promise I’m going to tell you how and in reality it’s the easiest thing in the world to do. Here it is: believe you can.
As hokey as it sounds I’m going to tell you why this is downright true.
Have you ever picked up a fashion magazine and seen your favorite musical artist or movie star gracing its cover in a wildly ostentatious frock and thought, “Wow. She’s so perfect?” How about those street style photos that are all over the internet. I’ve seen a girl wearing freaking caution tape as a belt and she looked hotter than ever. But if you got the chance to put on these exact same pieces of clothing you’d suddenly swear that you looked ridiculous. Why? The clothes didn’t change. You loved them on a celebrity or a model. The only thing that changed is who is wearing them, aka you.
As your friend (or ok, friendly stranger on the internet), I want you to let that sink in for a minute. You don’t think you can pull off all those bold fashion statements because you don’t like you enough. You don’t respect you enough. You don’t believe you’re beautiful enough.
This is why you can’t pull off these fashion trends — you won’t let yourself.
Look back at those pictures in the fashion magazines. Are these individuals slouching, arms crossed, head down, blushing and scootching their way out of the camera’s eye? No. They are walking, standing, posing boldly. They have nothing to be embarrassed of, because they believe they look like a million bucks. And let me tell you, no one can make you feel truly beautiful/handsome. Only you can. By accepting and loving and embracing who you are and how God painted your beautiful self.
So, no more excuses. No more I’m too old, I’m too fat, I’m too thin, I’m too ugly, I’m too tall, I’m too short. I dare you to go google short, tall, lean, curvy, young, mature fashionistas. Many exist! And they don’t hate on themselves, they love on themselves and they wear whatever they damn well please, thank you very much.
Throw out those silly “style rules” you place on yourself! You only live once, so live fully and have fun!
