Film Friday: The Blob

I was going to hold off on Halloween horror fun until October, but who am I kidding? Halloween is my lifeblood! And being simply a couple days away from its month won’t keep me from celebrating it early. Therefore, I decided to jump to horror films, all in honor of my upcoming favorite holiday.

Watching The Blob feels to me like extracting a treasure right out of a time capsule. This kind of old school horror has long been left behind for shame. It’s over-the-top, cheesy and packed with practical effects, which in my opinion all make for an amazing film.

Let’s not forget too that a 27-year-old Steve McQueen plays the main character, which just adds to this old Hollywood charm.

These kinds of films are what set the stage for so many of the horror films that have come after, that they deserve a real special place in this cinematic genre.
